Making Click Tracks in Logic

Intro
• In 618, outputs 5-6 in Logic sends audio to the headphone amp to which headphones are connected for a performer to hear a click or cue track.

To make a click track:
• Set the tempo for your piece, and click on the click button:

• If needed, you can automate tempo changes by clicking on the button with the up arrow to reveal the Global Tracks. This will bring down a set of tracks, where you can automate the tempo, add change signatures, and create markers.

• If you press play at this point, you will hear the click in the main speakers.

• To change the sound of the click, press the "x" key to reveal the mixer, then click on "All". This will reveal hidden channel strips, including the Click strip, which generate the click sound with the "Klopfgeist" instrument.

• Double clicking on the Klopfgeist plugin button will show the editor for that instrument, where you can change the sound of the click. For more on the function of each parameter in the Klopfgeist, please refer to the
Logic Pro Klopfgeist documentation.

• If you want to change the pitches being played by the Klopfgeist, go to File->Project Settings->Metronome. There you edit any the downbeat pitch of the downbeat and regular beats.

• To automate the click (volume, panning, Klopfgeist parameters, etc.), click on the Click strip, then choose "Create Track For Selected Channel Strip" form the "Options" menu in the mixer. This will create a track for the Click strip, which you can then automate as usual.

• To send the click to the headphone amp, select Output 5-6 on the Click channel strip.

• Connect headphones to the extension cable, and connect the extension cable to the headphone amp.

• Make sure the Master volume is at "5" on the headphone amp, and press space bar in Logic to start playback. You will see the meters on the headphone amp light up. Put on the headphones, and adjust the Level knob of the headphone amp to the desired volume. Make sure the MONO button is pressed (red).
